Purple sunrise en route to the Hillary Step. Another great photo by @eliasaikaly who ran around Everest like a man posessed with a camera. Great to see his passion come out with results like this. Its unfortunate that there were big cues this year. The Everestexperts team went for the summit on May 20 and had the entire ride to ourselves. Our strategy paid off, and we didn't follow the herd. Be the wolf!

@drjonkedski - #everest2019 CROWDS- I want to address the topic that seems to be on everyone’s minds since I have gotten tons of messages from people and there are lots of stories in the media about people dying from massive traffic jams on #Everest. Swipe ?? here to see places I encountered up to 30-50 climbers at any given time on the route. YES- most of the crowding was from the South side nepal route where nearly 400 western climbers plus Sherpas had permits. Even with 150 permits over here, Our North side route felt more crowded than normal this season for one main reason: number of possible summit days. The Chinese rope fixing team on this side chose to put the route in to the summit on May 22nd. Therefore May 23 and 24 were the only good days to go for the top so the bottleneck possibilities are obvious. (This morning- May 27th here in the Himalayas) there are a few teams still trying to make the top from the south- but most teams also took advantage of the weather on May 23rd and that’s where you get crowding. Solutions? Yes-just like in the US National Park system- limiting permits would help- especially on the Nepal side. But is anyone willing to compromise $$?
